Kuulates empaatiliselt, loome toetatavaga emotsionaalse sideme ja leiame sarnasusi tema ja enda kogemuste vahel. Empaatiline kuulaja keskendub vestlusele k\u00f5igiti, hoidudes t\u00e4helepanu hajumisest; ta kuulab nn kogu kehaga, olles teadlik enda kehakeelest.
